The Difference between Dreaming Big and Setting Unrealistic Expectations

I often confuse Dream Big with Setting Unrealistic Expectations. While the first one gets me places, the second blocks and derails my progress.

Setting Unrealistic Expectations:

- ignores the learning curve.

- demands immediate results.

- sets us up for disappointment.

- then shames us for not achieving what we planned.

We end up doubting ourselves and concluding that our goal is unachievable.

What looks like a shortcut to glory is a trap to throw us off course.

It is as if, deep inside, we are too afraid of the change that will come from achieving our goal.

So we camouflage that fear by demanding too much in too short of a time.

This gives us an EXCUSE to give up, which we justify by not getting quick results.

Whether in business or professional development, in writing books or raising children:

Unrealistic expectations = sets us up for failure.

Anything worth doing takes time.

I promise to give my dreams enough of my time and attention.

If it is important to get done, it should be done slowly, with consideration, and without rushing or making premature conclusions.

This is the way.
